Choosing the Best Nanny Camera For Your Home
There are a number of reasons that parents are increasingly choosing to outfit their home with a wireless security camera. For some, a nanny camera (or “nanny cam”) is an extra layer of protection to watch over kids, pets, elderly relatives and babysitters. For others, hidden cameras for home security are a matter of protection against burglary, vandalism, and other worrisome events. Whatever your reason for needing one, you want to find a camera that fits your exact needs.
Reviews And Buyer’s Guide For 2017
To narrow down your options, you’ll first want to determine which of these two purposes you are seeking to fulfill. Then check out our top 5 reviews and our buyer’s guide to choosing the right nanny camera. Find helpful tips on what to look for when choosing the best nanny camera for your home.
Wi-Fi Connection
Nanny cams used for checking in on real-time footage require a Wi-Fi connection. Once the camera is established on your home Wi-Fi network, you can view live video from anywhere in the world using a computer, tablet, smartphone (via iOS, Android or Windows apps) or other internet-enabled devices.
Wireless spy cameras for home security purposes can be installed in any room or aimed directly at entrances to the home. These cameras are often designed to be hidden as they “spy” on their immediate surroundings. In most cases, this means the camera looks like a simple digital clock. However, some models are designed to be wall-mounted like a thermostat. These units may or may not have instant Wi-Fi access. More often than not, a wireless security camera will record footage on its onboard memory for later review.
Nanny Cam Motion Sensors
If you are using the camera to make sure your home is secure, you’ll want motion sensors. These will turn on and record, whether it’s a delivery man at your door or a potential criminal. Some cameras can immediately alert you to this motion through an e-mail notification. Other models can be set to detect sound. If you’re not expecting any sound in your home while you’re away, an instant sound alert can be very helpful.
You’ll need different features if you’re planning to use the camera to check in on people or pets who are supposed to be in the home. Obviously, a motion or sound alert every time your dog enters the kitchen is a bit cumbersome. However, you may still want a motion sensor to help conserve energy and memory space. The camera would only come on and record when there is something visually notable.
Two-Way Communication
A nanny cam may also offer two-way communication. This can be helpful to speak through the camera’s speaker to soothe or instruct your children or pets. Two-way communication is most of the times only found on cameras designated as nanny cams. And not on those designed for home security.
Where To Install Or Place Your Nanny Cam
Finally, you’ll want to consider the set-up needed based on the location which you want the camera to record and the specifics of the camera you select. For instance, if you need to record all the areas in a small room, you’ll probably want a camera that can wall mount in the corner near the ceiling. You’ll also want to make sure you have a field of vision wide enough to encompass the whole room. If you just want a shot of your front door to pick up the image of anyone who approaches, you can get away with a much narrower field of vision from a camera placed on a standard piece of furniture.
